Everyone agrees that dealing with acne is the worst! What really makes the whole thing unbearable is the amount of skincare products out there to choose from. Some are too harsh, some are too gentle, and others are too expensive. The biggest thing that bothers me is the harsh chemicals that are in most acne products. We don’t need harsh, harmful chemicals that make your skin more sensitive, and prone to breakouts and sunburn. Acne can be treated naturally, which is often the most effective route.
One of the most natural acne fighting ingredients is honey. Honey is best used as a face mask, or spot treatment, to treat acne. It can certainly be messy, but does an excellent job at sanitizing the skin, and calming irritation or inflammation. Honey is naturally antiseptic, and also has strong anti-inflammatory properties. Both of these properties make it a great treatment for acne! Adding to this, honey is very moisturizing to the skin and helps re-condition and soften the face. It is also helpful to reduce the appearance of scars and to bring a natural glow to the skin.
The next natural skincare ingredient I’d like to discuss is Apple Cider Vinegar. Like honey, ACV also has strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It helps kill acne-causing bacteria on the face, as well as reduce inflammation and redness caused by breakouts. Another bonus of ACV is that it is an acid, so it works to remove dead skin cells from the face, revealing new, glowing skin. The best way to use apple cider vinegar is as a toner. I mix 1 part ACV to 3 parts water, or green tea and apply nightly. Be warned though, apple cider vinegar stinks! Luckily, the smell goes away after about 15 minutes!
Last but not least, essential oils must be mentioned! Essential oils can be wonderful for treating all sorts of ailments. I have found that most essential oils have anti-inflammatory properties as well as antiseptic properties. As previously mentioned, these two properties are killer when it comes to fighting acne. I have found most success with Tea Tree oil, Frankincense Oil, and Lavender Oil. If I have picked at my face (Which I so often do) I use an essential oil like Lavender to calm the irritation that I self-inflicted. Essential oils are the best for calming redness and irritation! Frankincense is the most powerful of these oils, and is my strongest weapon. It helps accelerate healing, and is incredibly effective on killing the bacteria in the breakout, and speeding up the healing process.
